Who will be the writers and publishers of tomorrow? At The Common, we are committed to building literary futures. Gifts from donors like you maintain our many author-centric programs and allow us to keep publishing voices from all around the world.
Help launch new writers.
The Common publishes new, diverse talent. In a single issue of The Common, you might find a New York Times bestseller alongside an author who’s seeing their work in print for the first time.
Your kind gifts help us find great work by emerging writers, collaboratively edit their work, offer competitive honoraria, and publish their writing on an open-access website, ensuring a broad, international readership.
Support the mentorship of student interns.
The Common’s unique Literary Publishing Internship (LPI) mentors the next generation of writers and editors. Our program trains students in all aspects of literary publishing, from evaluating submissions to marketing the issues. Alums have gone on to publish their own creative and scholarly writing, and work in publishing and literary nonprofits all over the world.
Your donations also support the Literary Editorial Fellowship. This position provides a year of full-time editorial experience for recent Amherst College alumni, opening up a variety of new projects and opportunities.
Bring new voices into the classroom.
From a high school in New Hampshire to a graduate seminar in the Bronx, The Common in the Classroom brings great contemporary literature to diverse students nationwide and internationally. Your donations allow us to offer discounted subscriptions, supplemental resources, and classroom visits with Editor in Chief Jennifer Acker, who provides students an inspiring window into the publishing world.
In the summer of 2020, we launched The Common Young Writers Program, a two-week remote creative writing camp that provides talented high schoolers with the opportunity to turn their writing passion into art. Your donations support full and partial scholarships for low-income students who otherwise couldn’t participate.
